POEM SHARE: Children's poets from across the globe presenting their favorite poems for Poetry Month and beyond!
Today's POEM SHARE comes from children's author and teacher librarian, Jolene Guitiérrez. Jolene's poem, If . . . Then, challenges readers to think about the relationship between two ideas, which are compared using couplets.
"If . . . Then" is featured in the poetry anthology If I Could Choose a Best Day: Poems of Possibility, edited by Irene Latham and Charles Waters, illustrated by Olivia Sua. It includes poems from 31 diverse voices, all exploring the power and possiblity of IF.
Jolene is also the author of several rhyming picture books, including The Ofrenda That We Built and Too Much, An Overwhelming Day.
After listening Jolene's poem, try writing your own IF . . . THEN poem. What ideas would you compare?
Happy poetry reading and writing, everyone!
